My Favorite Brazilian Food

Today I'll be talking about the delicious food I tried last visit in Brazil. You'll be amazed on how diverse Brazilian food and snacks can be!

Acarajé: Brazilian heaven... at least in my opinion! Acaraje is a dish made from peeled black-eyed peas formed into a ball and then deep-fried in palm oil. It's mostly found in the northeast of Brazil, as well as in Nigeria. It's served with vatapa and caruru - spicy pastes made from shrimp, palm oil, cashews and other ingredients. Split in half,  a pasty and a salad made out of green and red tomatoes is added to the dish. Fried shrimps also go on top along with hot pepper sauce. Vegetarian acaraje is served with hot peppers and green tomatoes. It's delish!

Acaraje from Maceio, without green and red tomatoes.

Pãozinho de Queijo: Brazilian cheese balls! This amazing snack originally from Minas Genais is very popular in Brazil, and you'll know why. They are not only easy to make, but they are cheesy, fluffy and delicious in taste. The amazing recipe is full or cheese, tapioca starch, eggs and milk. It's a win win dish. Yum!

Brazilian Cheese Bread, Paozinho de Queijo.

Coconut: We are coconut freaks and we cannot deny that. If you live in the northeast of Brazil, I EXPECT you to love coconuts more than water itself. I'm not kidding, we take a lot of pride in our beautifully green coconuts. The inner part of the coconut, as we called it "carne" or "meat" is the best part of the coconut. The coconut water is also wonderful! Tip for you: cut the "carne" of the coconut and let it rest in the fridge for a couple hours. It will taste amazing, believe me.

Beautiful coconuts cut in half.

Arroz, carne de Siri and Pirão:  (Translation: rice, crab meat and grab paste.) One of the most popular dishes you'll find at the beach in the northeast of Brazil. The rice is usually plain, with no much than garlic, onion and salt. The crab meat is cooked with peppers, tomatoes, olive oil, bell pepper along with other  yummy ingredients. The paste has a similar flavor to the crab meat (carne de siri), but the ingredients are blended instead of cooked.

Salmão Assado com batata: (Translation: roasted salmon with potatoes) I could probably eat this dish everyday and never get tired of it. The salmon goes to the oven, along with garlic, 4 potatoes, 2 lemons, onion, olive oil, parsley, rosemary and basil. It's a healthy tasty dish full of protein. Very rich in flavor!

Popsicle Tablito: Best dessert in the whole world! I remember eating this nonstop when I was young. Outside is a dark chunky chocolate, but inside is a white cheamy chocolate full of wonder. Please, do me a favor, and try this amazing popsicle (that taste like icecream, or heaven per say).
